Okay! So we all agree to the fact that experiencing the Goan Fish Thali is a must while visiting the state. From spicy to tangy the Goan thali is a melange of flavours. Nestled by the shores of the Arabian Sea, Goa relishes its fresh catch from the sea by preparing the dishes with much love for the taste buds.

A Goan thali would have rice, fried fish, fish curry, solkadi, and a couple of accompaniments. But, a major accompaniment that gives the delicious Goan meal the exotic touch is the Kismoor or dry prawn and coconut chutney (dry). Every Goan eye will widen the moment his eyes fall upon this golden-colored small heap on his plate or on the buffet table and a boat can float in his mouth.

Kismoor is an essential item among the dried seafood condiments saved up for the monsoon season, in traditional Goan households. During the monsoon months when they avoid fresh seafood preparations, Goans largely use up the array of items safely preserved. Kismoor is a mildly spiced blend of dried prawns and grated coconut, tempered with coconut oil and curry leaves and flavored with a tinge of kokum.

Some restaurants are so famous for Kismoor like the erstwhile iconic Mandovi. It was a big transgression to come out of Mandovi without tasting the Kismoor! In some cases, Kismoor can be seen in the salad section of the buffet menu of Goan restaurants.

Next time you are after a full Goan thali, make sure you spot the little heap of Kismoor on its side. Travel to Goa, Stay with us at Hillside Retreat, Ponda, and explore the authentic Goan food spots around the area!
